After leaving Ephesus we travelled to the hills behind to silently view a house which is said to be the site of the Virgin Mary's house at the end of her life. St John took her there so she would be safe from the Romans and apparently live out her life in this tranquil spot. Nuns and priest live around this area and many Christians make pilgrimages to this site to pray to the Virgin Mary. The lower rows of bricks of this house are said to be from the first century AD but the rest of the house was built in the third century AD and renovated in the last ten years. The tree standing at the door certainly looks like it has been there for two thousand years!
It is a beautiful, quiet area surrounded by a pine forrest.
Hi Mrs Brennan,
